Located in downtown Toronto, Ryerson University is a public research university that has over 24, 000 full- time students. Making room for bigger things

Recently, Ryerson University has been going through major expansion plans. Six new buildings have been built in the last decade with two additional constructions to be proposed. In their efforts to support their expansions efforts, Ryerson University acquired $40 million worth of real- estate. The most notable acquirement was the historical Sam the Record Man store located Yonge Street. Ryerson Theatre, one of downtown Toronto’s largest theatres with over 1200 seats, has also undergone major renovations over the past five years. Leaders of tomorrow, leaders of today

Students of Ryerson University are taught by an impressive faculty that all have their share in rewards and contributions to academia. In November 2005, Professor Arne Kislenko won TVOntario’s Best Lecturer Series. In 2006, two more professors from Ryerson University, philosophy professor Dr. James Cunningham and radio and television arts professor, Dana Lee also competed in the semi – finals. Another notable faculty member is Greg Inwood, a professor in the department of Politics and Public Administration. Inwood was awarded the prestigious Donald Smiley Prize for his book Continetalizing Canada: The Politics and Legacy of the Macdonald Royal Commission.

Where great minds are developed

Drop by Ryerson Library when you travel with your Toronto rental car to see where great minds at works. Built in 1974, the 11 storey tower building is a classic example of Brutalist architecture. The Ryerson Library boasts a collection of over 500, 000 books, 3 700 print journal titles and over $2 million of electronic resources, including about 23 000 e- journals, e – books, databases and indexes, geospatial data, cataloged websites, and electronic documents. The library also houses several administrative offices, the Nursing Collaborative and Urban and Regional Planning program.

Updating for a brighter future

As a part of Ryerson University expansions plans, the library is either going to be relocated or will undergo extensive renovations to expand the building over the next several years. On January 18, 2008 with the acquisition of the former location of Sam the Record Man, the library was able to expand to the prime Yonge Street location. In addition, to improve the quality of study space, the fourth floor of the library was renovated to add lounges, a Graduate Reading Room and LCD panels. A safer and greener campus

Most recently, the university population have been pushing to have Gould Street completely closed between Yonge and Church for pedestrians. This proposed change would increase pedestrian safety significantly.
