Toronto discount car rental and Luminato

Celebrate diversity during your upcoming Toronto discount car rental vacation and plan to attend the city’s Luminato Festival. This boisterous new cultural event is a living testimony of Toronto’s creativity, as well as a celebration of Toronto’s international appeal. Nearly one million people attend the festival every year, with many coming from destinations outside of Canada to attend. If you’ve ever doubted Toronto’s place on the international stage, plan to attend the Luminato festival – you’re mind will be changed forever!

A quick history of the festival

The Luminato Festival was founded in 2007 by Tony Gagliano and David Pecaut. They two businessmen were inspired by the cultural buildings being built in the city, and wished to create an internationally- flavoured festival to complement the scene. The idea made perfect sense, considering Toronto is home to virtually every culture and language! In 2006, Janice Price was selected as the Luminato’s first CEO. Now entering its fourth year, the Luminato has already become one of Toronto’s must-attend summer festivals.

The three key programming principles of Luminato

The Luminato Festival is designed around three main principles – collaboration, accessibility and diversity.

  1. Collaboration: Toronto discount car rental travelers will witness a wide range of artistic collaboration at Luminato, as different genres and cultures combine to create innovative new forms of entertainment. The festival is designed to encourage local, national and international partnerships, resulting in unprecedented levels of creativity.
  2. Accessibility: Toronto discount car rental travelers can leave their wallets at home during the Luminato festival. More than 90% of the events and performances are provided free of charge at the festival; those that do require a fee are still extremely affordable. The festival is also designed to encourage “accidental encounters with art,” as festival goers are encouraged to participate and interact with many of the displays.
  3. Diversity: Luminato celebrates Toronto’s cultural diversity, and recognizes that creativity flourishes best in an atmosphere of respect and tolerance.

Yonge and Dundas – the centre of it all

Toronto discount car rental travelers can catch most of the Luminato action at the corner of Yonge and Dundas. Thousands upon thousands of people will flock to this location outside the Royal Ontario Museum during the 10-day-long festival, enjoying a wide variety of programs and performances.
