Canadian National Exhibition and Car Rental Toronto

When you think of agriculture, chances are good you don't automatically think of the city of Toronto. Well, that's because you've never been to the Ex! The Canadian National Exhibition (or CNE) is an annual event held at Exhibition Place on the Toronto waterfront. It is the largest fair in Canada, and the fourth largest in North America. Nearly 1.3 million people will attend this year's festival, and one of them could be you! So grab some friends and load up your car rental Toronto vehicle. We're going to the Ex!

About the CNE

The Canadian National Exhibition is an 18-day festival taking place every August and concluding on Labour Day. For over 130 years, the CNE has featured a strong agricultural component, including everything from horse shows to livestock awards. Car rental Toronto travelers will even find a working farm on the grounds, complete with kid's petting zoo. And who could forget the midway games! Car rental Toronto travelers will find two midways at the CNE with more than 50 rides and 80 games. There's also plenty of great carnival food to choose from along the midway, including longtime favourites like candy floss, pretzels, and corndogs. Looking for something special to munch on? Then head to the CNE Food Building to discover 90 vendors featuring foods from around the world.

One eye on the environment

The CNE is committed to protecting and sustaining the environment. In fact, the grounds play host to the first ever urban wind turbine in North America, as well as the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Demonstration Project. Car rental Toronto travelers will also be excited to learn that in 2008, the CNE has diverted an estimated 70% of all solid waste from landfills, and has reduced its energy consumption by 1.05 megawatts since 2005. If you're interested in learning more about the CNE's environmental initiatives, TransCanada suggests visiting the CNE on Green Day. Each year, one day of the CNE is designed entirely around environmental technology, providing car rental Toronto travelers will access to exciting community activities and hands-on experiments.

Are you feeling a little artistic?

The CNE has a long history of supporting Canadian artists. At one point, there was even a gallery on the grounds displaying some of the nation's finest pieces. A large portion of these original works are now displayed in the Art Gallery of Ontario. This includes works by A.Y. Jackson, Stanley E. Turner, and Lawren Harris. Today, the CNE continues to feature fantastic art displays during the duration of the fair. Past displays of distinction have included Celebration of Women by Canadian artist Larisa Sembaliuk Cheladyn, and the “From Fine Art to Kitsch: A Celebration of CNE Art since 1870.”

Hours of fun

Car rental Toronto travelers can visit the CNE from 10am until midnight. Fair buildings are open from 10am to 10pm, while the onsite casino is open from noon to 6am. If you're planning to visit the fair on the final day, Labour Day, please note that the gates are only open until 5om, and the grounds are open until 10pm. Admission to the CNE is $15 for adults, $11 for children and seniors and free for kids under the age of two. Tickets can be purchased online at www.theex.com, or at the CNE's front gate.
