Children’s Own Museum and Toronto Car Hire
Planning a vacation that’s fun for all ages isn’t always easy. Sometimes, it can be downright impossible. Luckily, that isn’t the case in Toronto. Ontario’s capital city has plenty of great all-ages attractions to choose from, as well as some unique kid-approved establishments. Take the Children’s Own Museum (also known as COM) for example. This interactive cultural centre was designed exclusively for children ages 12 and under, providing parents with the perfect Toronto car hire vacation destination. Educational and entertaining, the Children’s Own Museum was a definitive part of Toronto culture.
The COM concept
The Children’s Own Museum was designed to reflect the geography, culture, and values of the city of Toronto, as seen through the eyes of a child. This was been accomplished through physical design, informative exhibits, and educational programming. The museum’s goal: to provide a place where children play to learn, and where Toronto car hire adults learn to play. While the original Children’s Own Museum closed back in 2002, plans have recently been revived to reopen the museum in a new Toronto location.
A quick look inside the COM
The Children’s Own Museum was inaugurated in 1998 by Hilary Weston. The centre, which was housed for three years inside the former McLaughlin Planetarium at the Royal Ontario Museum, welcomed more than 133,000 people per year, including thousands of school children. Toronto car hire travelers could discover a familiar world of fun inside the COM, thanks to a neighbourhood-theme and child-sized attractions. Youngsters were encouraged to participate in community activities inside the museum, like tending a garden, contribute to a mural, and produce a stage play. There was even an animal clinic where children could nurse sick stuffed animals back to health. These and other exhibits at the COM provided children with a learning experience that was as fun as it was informative.
Support the Children’s Own Museum during your Toronto car hire vacation
The Children’s Own Museum is dedicated to providing children with a safe place to explore city life. Now, Toronto car hire travelers can help support this mission, by making a secure, tax-deductible donation online through CanadaHelps.org. Donations can be made in any denomination, with $50, $75, and $100 amounts being the most popular. Your donation will help fund the building of a new, state-of-the-art Children’s Own Museum in the Greater Toronto Area.
Gone but not forgotten
The Children’s Own Museum may have closed its doors years ago, but this was never a permanent decision. In fact, plans are currently underway to open a new and improved Children’s Own Museum in downtown Toronto. There has long been a need for a preeminent children’s museum in Toronto, a need that will easily be met by the COM facility. To learn more about the fight to bring Children’s Own back to Toronto, visit centre’s Facebook page, or log onto the official Children’s Own Museum website at www.childrensownmuseum.org. Toronto car hire travelers can also contact the Children’s Own Museum by phone at 416-360-1266 or by email at info@childrensownmuseum.org.
Why Children’s Museums are so important
The Children’s Own Museum is extremely important to the city of Toronto as it provides children with a place that’s designed exclusively around their needs, likes, and interests. Surprisingly enough, there is currently no other facility designed exclusively for children in the GTA. Toronto car hire travelers are encouraged to learn more about the importance of Children’s Museums by visiting the Association of Children’s Museums online at www.childrensmuseums.org. Not only do these facilities provide travelers with a great vacation destination, but they also complement efforts in schools, child care centres, and community groups to enrich the lives and education of children.
