Located on 250 Front Street West, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Museum or the CBC Museum is situated within the Canadian Broadcasting Centre. The CBC Museum is dedicated to preserving the physical heritage and archival materials that document the history of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). CBC is an important part of Canada’s heritage, having been Canada’s national broadcaster since 1936. Famous faces

Several people are celebrated at the CBC Museum due to their contribution to Canadian broadcasting. Both people in front and behind the camera. Notable figures include Barbara Frum, one of Canada’s most well known media personalities. Frum began her career as a freelance writer but eventually moved on as a commentator for radio programs and then eventually as a host to the popular show As it Happens. Ross McLean also made a name for himself with his hardworking character. Fresh out of university, McLean’s first job was with CBC where he created numerous popular public affair shows including Tabloid, Close – Up, Telescope and The Way It is.

The collection

When you visit the CBC Museum with your Toronto car rental you will be able to see of 4000 artifacts of Canadian broadcasting history. See Mr. Dressup's Tickle Trunk, and the Friendly Giant's castle and set! There's even the furniture that the Giant rearranges to welcome you to the castle! Once you make your way past the giant picture of Peter Mansbridge plastered on the side of the CBC building, and get inside, the museum is located quietly on the side. Visitors will be able to have fun guessing what the objects are and what they do as they browse through each display of the museum. There is also another gallery in the museum that shows original recording and broadcasting instruments used throughout the history of the station.

The CBC Museum has several permanents exhibits that are perfect for all visitors. These include film clips that are interesting for all ages. Current displays include “Growing Up with CBC” and “CBC Radio Sound Effects”. CBC Radio Sound Effects features sound and radio equipment used in the sound effects department at the CBC for many years. When you see the Growing up with CBC display with your Toronto car rental you children will be sure to love the props, puppets, photos, and video clips from the children’s shows Mr. Dressup and Seasame Park featured.

The Graham Spry Theatre

Right beside the CBS Museum is the Graham Spry Theatre, a 40 – seat venue that offers Toronto car rental travelers to sit and relax as they watch a video projection on a 1950’s era wooden television set replica. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Museum is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with mornings being the best time to visit to avoid the crowds. It is closed on statutory holidays. Admission to the museum is free and it is wheelchair accessible. The CBC museum is fairly small, so it should only take about 30 minutes to tour the entire museum with your Toronto car rental.
